Call the Midwife series two, episode eight - preview pictures and predictions

I would have scored 10 for this series, except for the fact that it doesn't truly follow the accounts written in the book from which it is taken.

Some of the diversions from the book are to allow the characters other than Jenny Lee to have stronger story lines, which I can accept to an extent. But some of the story lines have been expanded for dramatic effect, new tv shows on usa, so they are not relying upon the original author',tv shows on dvd;s memoirs, but rather the imagination of the scriptwriters, which I think is somewhat regrettable.

Having said that I am finding the series entirely watchable, and enjoyable. All the cast seem to be good, but I must say I am most impressed with Miranda Hart as Chummy, what a brick she is.

This Sunday's episode of Call the Midwife saw sweet Sister Bernadette finally take the plunge and follow her heart. Away from Nonnatus House the nun had hours to ponder her future and decided that the time might have come for her to follow a different path. Hopefully one which will lead her straight into Dr Turner's arms, but with her health still hanging the balance who knows what decision she'll make once she's back in Poplar.

Meanwhile, Cynthia helped a put-upon wife stand up to her bully of a husband while Jenny treated black mum-to-be Monique who was being subjected to racial prejudice. Lonely and disillusioned by the cold and unfriendly east end, Monique struggled to live alongside her nasty neighbours - but one of them came to her rescue when she needed help the most.

Back at Nonnatus House the long-awaited scooter arrived and Fred set about teaching the eager midwives their scooting theory. But as days went by without the sound of a revving engine, Sister Evangeline got suspicious and it soon transpired that Fred was clueless when it came to actually riding the contraption...

And the lovely Chummy reappeared following her adventures overseas (with a little extra luggage!) and announced that she was due to give birth any minute.

But what's going to happen in the series finale? We've got our hands on some shots of the action and have made our usual spurious suggestions, dvd films online...

Well, well, well, look who's come crawling back... It's old heart breaker Jimmy - now a married man and doting dad we assume.

Poor Jenny. She could do without having to look at his charming smile and floppy blonde locks. Though the meeting must be an awkward one - Trixie is clearly struggling to contain her giggles - thankfully Jimmy does look a little sheepish (as rightly he should).

Jimmy's past indiscretions aside, look who he's brought with him...

Jimmy's dreamy companion could be the perfect partner for unlucky in love Jenny. That is, if she can bring herself to look past the unfortunate bottle green turtle neck and waistcoat combo...

Perhaps he's on the same page and is gazing longingly in her direction, dreaming of having his very own Jimmy-style shotgun wedding - or, more likely, his eyes are in need of a break from the gaudy checkered wallpaper...

Should Chummy really be jumping straight back on the saddle in her condition? Surely she's about to pop?

Cycling through the alley ways of Poplar is proving harder than it used to be, too. Clearly riding a bike is not 'like riding a bike' when your centre of gravity has substantially shifted, buy cheap dvd...

In fact... maybe Chummy's baba is set to make its first foray? She does have an alarmed look on her face. Maybe she's trying to get her rounds done before her waters break, though nobody would be much use as a midwife when in the fullthroes of labour themselves. Or perhaps Jenny and Trixie are guiding her to the maternity home? They are supposed to be sensible midwives though so why they would cart her around on a bike is beyond us.

Ah look, just as we predicted. Jenny and the mystery man are jiving and jitterbug-ing like it's 1958.

Our little lovebirds may be getting up close and personal but neither of them seem inclined to look at each other - have they never heard of eye contact? A smug smile in Jimmy's direction is just the ticket though, that boy needs reminding of what he's missing...

Uh oh. Are Trixie and Jenny fighting over the same man?

Mere minutes after Jenny lets go of him and Trixie is, well, talking to someone just out of shot... But chances are it's turtle neck guy. And Cynthia and Jane are clearly on Jenny's side. Bopping with a boy is as good as shouting bagsy.

But flirty and forward Trixie has had very little attention (bar the creepy minor celebrity) this series and it is about time she found love too...

Looks like Jenny's got more important things on her mind here. Could Chummy have become a mummy while almost all of Nonnatus House's work force are off gallivanting around in swanky bars sipping cocktails? Perhaps Sister Evangeline has burst into the bar bellowing for reinforcements...
