Baa Baa Black Sheep (AKA Black Sheep Squadron) - Could This POSSIBLY Be the Long-Awaited 'Season 2' Episodes?

In 2005, Universal Studios released Volume 1 DVDs of Baa Baa Black Sheep, the show starring Robert Conrad, and loosely based on the World War II experiences of Pacific-theater airplane ace Major Greg "Pappy" Boyington, and his "black sheep" squadron of flying misfits. In fact, the pilot telefilm was called "Flying Mistfits," and in reruns of the show that telefilm is usually split up into two episodes.

Counting that as "two," there were 24 episodes total in the first season, and then there was a second season of 12 episodes, which the show retitled as "Black Sheep Squadron"...a title that the series gkept in reruns. The Volume 1 DVD set contains the first half (eleven episodes, including the complete un-split pilot telefilm), and then in 2007 Universal followed up with Volume 2, with the remaining 12 episodes of the first season (under the Baa Baa Black Sheep title).

For the past 8 years, fans - including myself! - have wondered when or if the show's second season, the 12 episodes aired as "Black Sheep Squadron" - would ever make it to DVD. It came out overseas, but what about the good ol' USA? After all, it not only contains cast members like Conrad, Dana Elcar, Dirk Blocker, John Larroquette and Katherine Cannon, but guest stars such as Soon-Tek Oh, James Saito, Tim Matheson, Don Stark, Ernie Hudson and the real Gregory "'Pappy" Boyington himself.

Could that long awaited second season be coming to DVD at last? Well, there's no official announcement yet, but VideoETA, a trusted website produced by home video distributor Ingram Entertainment, is now showing a February 23rd release of something from Cinedigm Entertainment called "Baa Baa Black Sheep - Black Sheep Squadron." Since the show is widely known by both names, and since the second season is indisputably known as " Black Sheep Squadron," then it's entirely possible that this is what fans have been waiting for, coming at long last. But there's no description accompanying this info, nor package art, nor anything else that would explain for sure if this is the Season 2 episodes. Price is just $19.97 SRP, though, which is about right these days for 12 episodes from 1977-78.

Or maybe it's a re-release of first season episodes. We just don't know yet.

But here's to hoping! Stay tuned, of course, and we'll update you about this further, as additional information becomes available.
