Mom - Clearing Up Confusion over Difference Between 'Season 2' in USA and Canada

Several weeks ago we brought you an article titled, "Mom - We Told You Of 'The Complete 2nd Season' in Canada. Is the USA Different?" In that write-up, we explained that in Canada, Warner Brothers is releasing Mom - The Complete 2nd Season on DVD in stores starting tomorrow, October 13th. But that the title's release in the U.S. seemed a bit less unclear...VideoETA, a site produced by distributor Ingram Entertainment, has been listing this as a manufacture-on-demand (MOD) title all along, showing a different UPC code than the Canadian release and showing a release date later on...it said October 27th, as of the time of our previous report. There were also two different images floating around for cover art!

Now VideoETA is showing a Tuesday, November 10th date for the USA release of this title, and still lists it as an MOD title from Warner. The Warner Archive Collection's page at the odvdo.com studio store doesn't have an entry for the item yet, but the Amazon.com (USA) entry for the title - while it's still not taking pre-orders yet - is now showing the NEW box art for this title, shown below, which is the same artwork that Warner of Canada distributed to retailers.
We asked Warner Home Video about the differences between the USA version and the Canadian version, and their response clears up the confusion very directly. The studio informs us that they have decided to release "a regular set in some international markets and MOD in the US." When then say "some international markets," it's clear that Canada is among them. Word from our friends in the U.S. home video retail industry is that sales of the first season DVDs were weak for this show, and that the big retail chains didn't want to stock the second season on their shelves as a result. If that's the case, then kudos to Warner for finding a way to get the award-winning Mom - The Complete 2nd Season episodes on DVD to passionate State-side fans in whatever manner works!
