Site News - Shout!'s SDCC 2015 TV Round-Up: Manimal, Automan, Dairanger, Blu Freaks and Geeks!

As you know, this past weekend the U.S.A. tilted a bit to the left, as tons of people landed on the west coast for the 2015 San Diego Comic Con. It was an event full of fun, and also full of announcements. Our friends at Shout! Factory had a few announcements to make while there, and we're happy to pass them along in a quick roundup...assisted by the Shout! Twitter account! Here are the 3 tweets from them, which mean the most to TV show fans. Let's take them one at a time:

Yes, sandwiched between the mention of a film starring Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) and Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones...his first film, by the way!) and the mention of a documentary about comic books, we see that Shout! will be bringing out DVDs ofManimal(1983, NBC, ran for 8 episodes) andAutoman(1983, ABC, produced 13 episodes, one unaired). Both are Glen A. Larson productions, and both have previously been available on DVD in the U.K. (since 2012) via Fabulous Films. Now it looks like Shout! is working to bring them to American audiences. No word on when we'll see these, but stay tuned! And then, for younger fans of action/adventure, there's this:

Yes, the Japanese "Super Sentai" program whose footage became the "Thunder MegaZords" and Tommy's "White Power Ranger" from the 2nd Season ofMighty Morphin Power Rangersis coming to North America at last, with Shout! Factory's upcoming DVD release ofDairanger. This is the show that immediately followsZyurangerin Japan, which Shout! hasalready releasedearlier this year. We'll probably seeGosei Sentai Dairangerearly next year, is my guess, but no details have been finalized yet. Stay tuned for that! In the meantime, if you're looking for some more dramatic fare, and in high-definition, then Shout!'s got great news:

Yes, we're going to get a high-defBlu-ray Discrelease of the show created by Judd Apatow and Paul Feig, and which starred such future household names as James Franco, Seth Rogen, Linda Cardellini, and Jason Segel. Shout! previously releasedFreaks and Geeks - The Complete Serieson DVD in 2004, and then "The Yearbook Edition" in 2008. Now they have the original source film in hand, and they still have all the music clearances intact from the previous DVD releases, so they are moving forward on a Blu-ray version of this incredible show that ran for 18 episodes on NBC starting in 1999. They don't know yet if they'll be adding new bonus material, or what else will happen...it's still early days. Stay tuned for updates, on this and the other items, as further developments occur!
