Empire - 'The Complete 1st Season' is Also Being Planned for Blu-ray Disc, Too!

Back in February, we reported that odvdo.com had added a pre-order listing for the hot new show starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, showing that on September 8th Fox Home Entertainment will release Empire - The Complete 1st Season on DVD. Since then www.odvdo.com has removed the actual date from their entry, changing it to simply say, "This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives." This probably just indicates that the date is too far off, and Fox doesn't want to commit to it so early...but here at TSoD we are going to stick to that date until/unless we hear otherwise (but we'll keep it in pencil, just in case we need the eraser!).
Three months ago the pre-order listing found was for DVD format only, with no commitment to the BD high-def disc format. Now, though, with the show's first season ending with explosive ratings and terrific praise from fans and critics alike, and with the network officially renewing the show for a second season, the folks at Fox Home Entertainment have told www.odvdo.com to go ahead and add a Blu-ray pre-order listing for Empire - The Complete 1st Season as well. They've even got preliminary package art, shown below (may not be finalized, and could be subject to change). Our thanks to reader Don Jariyasunant for the heads-up about that.
