The Midnight Special - Time Life's 3-Disc Retail Collection is Coming to DVD Soon

A cultural phenomenon and visual spectacle, THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL was the show to watch for incredible LIVE performances by the biggest music acts of the 1970s. From rock and pop to R&B and country, millions of music fans faithfully tuned in every week for the sounds, the fashions, the humor...and the crazy hair. Those once-in-a-lifetime LIVE performances are captured on this new-to-retail 3-disc collector's set from StarVista Entertainment/Time Life.

A 'must-have' for fans of '70s music and pop culture, THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL, created by impresario Burt Sugarman as an antidote for the lack of youth-oriented late-night programming, delivers the most iconic hits performed LIVE by music's most enduring artists, along with hilarious stand-up from the greatest comedians of all time - and more!

On August 19, 1972, THE MIDNIGHT SPECIAL became the destination for music fans. Airing at 1:00 am every Friday on NBC for the next 9 years, it was guaranteed to kick the weekend off with a resounding bang. But music was only part of the appeal. The series, which ran until 1981, also showcased the era's funniest comedians, including stand-up acts and impressionists such as Steve Martin, George Carlin, Richard Pryor, Billy Crystal, Joan Rivers, Andy Kaufman, Flip Wilson, Freddie Prinze and more.

Among many highlights of the set is are an incredible 7- minute "Moondance" performance featuring Van Morrison, Carlos Santana, Etta James, George Benson and Dr. John; as well as Heart pounding out "Crazy on You," Steely Dan reeling off "Reeling in the Years" and "Do it Again," and Jim Croce performing his 1972 hit "Operator (That's Not the Way it Feels)."
