Other challenges include turncoat traitors ("Steamer's Defection"), dino-clones ("Destroy All Guardians") and a trip to New Earth ("Quest for New Earth"), deep in the reaches of space! So fire up your cyber-disc machine and get ready to rock and robot with Leader-1, Cop-Tur, Crasher, Scooter and the rest!
Bot-Bonus: The legendary "ROBO-FORCE: THE REVENGE OF NAZGAR" TV special, featuring Maxx Steele and more Robo-Force favorites!
Early this week our site brought you the heads-up that the Warner Archive is preparing an MOD release for Challenge of the GoBots - The Series, Volume 2 on DVD. Now the studio has made it official, putting up a WBshop.com pre-order listing for the title!
As we anticipated, the March 31st date shown at VideoETA is for a more general distribution of the product, and Warner themselves will begin selling it sooner directly to customers. Their date is March 10th, and the cost is much less as well with a list price of $18.95 SRP. This 662-minute release gives you the remaining episodes of the show's regular run.
Also included as a bonus is the 1984 telefilm "Robo Force: The Revenge of Nazgar," a one-shot special produced by Ruby-Spears (GoBots was produced by Hanna-Barbera) based a different toy line available in the '80s (the "Robo Force" toys with lead character Max Steele). That's a nice thing to have, certainly. But *NOTABLY* missing from the studio's DVD description quoted above, however, is the 1986 theatrical film, GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords. Fans won't consider the franchise to be complete on disc until they have that movie, too!
That item is a film that has never been released on DVD in North America (only on VHS), and we know how much fans want the Warner Archive to make it available. We've made an inquiry, but haven't heard back yet. Since we're a site called "HIDVSD.COM," we don't typically cover theatrical film releases to home video, even when they're affiliated with a television program (which is why you never see us talk about Wrath of Khan, for example!). But if we find out anything significant about a release of Rock Lords, we'll at least try to mention it briefly over at our Twitter and Facebook pages.
Package art for Challenge of the GoBots - The Series, Volume 2 hasn't been made available yet, but stay tuned and we'll bring that to you as soon as possible! Our thanks to the various readers who emailed us to contribute to this story.
