'The Complete 3rd Season' Roars Back to DVD in 2015

 In 2007 and 2008, Warner Home Video released the first two seasons of CHiPs on DVD, the classic cop show starring Erik Estrada as "Ponch," Larry Wilcox as "Jon," and Robert Pine (father of the actor who currently plays "Captain Kirk" in the movies) as "Sgt. Getraer." All three returned to DVD in 2012 with the Warner Archive MOD release of CHiPs 99, the post-season telefilm which reunited these California Highway Patrolmen later in their lives. But there were 6 seasons of the show...what ever happened with Seasons 3 through 6 on DVD?

The season premiere episode of the third season was a double-length extravaganza, "Roller Disco" (broken into two parts for syndicated reruns, of course), The story was filled with popular music of the time, used at a charity event, along with an insanely huge number of guest-star cameos which included Leif Garrett, M*A*S*H star Larry Linville, Ed McMahon, Larry Storch, Bill Daily, Melissa Sue Anderson, Todd Bridges, Dana Plato, Ruth Buzzi, Victor French, Dody Goodman, Dan Haggerty, Richard Hatch, Tina Louise, Nancy Kulp, Peter Marshall, Dick Van Patten, Adam Rich, Connie Needham, Susan Richardson, Vic Tayback, Philip McKeon, Lee Meriwether, George Peppard, Jo Ann Pflug, Brett Somers, Jo Anne Worley, Cindy Williams, and more.

So was THAT the reason for the hold-up on new DVD seasons sets for this show? Warner didn't say it was; they only would say back in 2010 that "No plans for future seasons at this time, although we continue to evaluate it." Well, it seems like the evaluating is done, someone has finally found a way to make the numbers work.
