A social satire that follows the stories of four black students at an Ivy League college where controversy breaks out over a popular but offensive black-face party thrown by white students. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, the film explores racial identity in acutely-not-post-racial America while weaving a universal story of forging one's unique path in the world.

Oh how I loved this movie. It displays the difficulties of races mixing, of being free, generally. And it does so by depicting a lovable cast of young actors that interact in intellectual dialogue, the way it is mythologized by the director. Also, this is like people talk in this movie. So keep it up, try to follow the main theme though, don't get lost in the variety of topics these characters bring up: status, wealth, welfare, immigration, campus politics, ethics, morality, cultural criticism, media and hype. If you want to sum up the film in one sentence: Insight and intelligence don't protect you from being racist. Even a supposedly tolerant campus doesn't. I also loved the soundtrack, a mix of classical and hip hop pieces. The camera focuses on the characters frowns and gestures as they try to make their argument. many close-ups, fast cuts, which gets you confused in the beginning to keep track of all that is going on in this really intriguing picture.
