Summary:

In Plain Sight has stayed on the air for a while now, so it obviously knows something about how to give its crime drama audience both exactly what it has received for decades now and something fresh, but this writer found this Season 3 set to be painfully and woefully been-there-done-that. I must admit that this is the first I've seen of the show - perhaps experiencing the series' first two seasons would give me a more rounded perspective on it - but as engaging as In Plain Sight can be on an episode-by-episode basis, this collection is pretty darned limp.

The show follows U.S. Marshall Mary Shannon (Mary McCormack) who works in Albuquerque, NM as an agent for the Witness Protection Program. See, she's one of the folks who oversees how those who get into the program end up making out. And of course there are complications - a boyfriend (Cristian de la Fuente), a crazy mom (Lesley Ann Warren) - to throw a wrench into what would be just another collection of days at the office.

I don't blame Shannon: She's a steady and sexy center for the show. But this Sopranos-meets-CSI series doesn't showcase much steady material on this Season 3 set. Sure, it's nice to see guest stars Laura San Giacomo and Fred Ward in cameo parts, but In Plain Sight - its relative success aside - is a relatively plain affair in its third season. It's not terrible, but there are better crime dramas on TV.
